On Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th October the scientists, researchers, archaeologist and technicians joining the Weddell Sea Expedition in January 2019 all met to discuss and outline the plans for the upcoming voyage.
The Captain and Master of the Angulhas II and the scientists from the University of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, and University of Canterbury, New Zealand, travelled specifically for the conference and to meet the rest of the team. The expedition will use advanced deep sea technology to help locate Shackleton’s Endurance and gain scientific data of the region.
All personnel involved are motivated and excited after two successful days at the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge, UK. The conference highlighted the pioneering scientific and archaeological research that the expedition hopes to complete.
